See How Our WA DIY Driving Lessons Work

A real example from our premium lesson library

If you’re learning to drive in Western Australia, one of the biggest challenges is knowing exactly what assessors look for in the Practical Driving Assessment (PDA).

That’s where our WA‑specific DIY driving lesson plans make the difference.

We’ve helped thousands of WA learners become safe, confident drivers who meet assessment standards.

Here’s a real sample lesson so you can see exactly how our plans work — and how they can help you pass your PDA on the first try.

Currently designed for automatic transmission learners only.

Lesson Example: Painted Median Strips

One of the most common — and most misunderstood — road features in WA is the painted median strip.

You’ll often encounter these when turning right into side streets, and they can be tricky if you’re not 100% sure of the rules.

In this lesson you’ll learn:

What a painted median strip is and how it differs from a raised median.

When you can legally drive on one. How to safely position your vehicle for a turn.

Common learner mistakes that lead to test fails.

What you should do

  • Move into the median strip

  • Use the median strip, as much as is possible, to slow down to avoid holding up the flow of traffic

  • Wait in a position that is neither behind the intersection completely, nor past the entrance of our lane

  • Turn without cutting the corner

What you shouldn't do

  • Stay out in the traffic lane

  • Wait behind the street entrance

  • Overshoot the turn

  • Cut corners as you turn

  • Slow down unnecessarily in the traffic lane and hold up the flow of traffic
